The villagers in the Kanas area in Puri district morning woke up shocked on Saturday after finding a crocodile swimming in the Daya River near Birakishorepur. 

One day after the villagers spotted a crocodile in the Rajua river, the sighting of another crocodile triggered panic among the local residents. After sighting two crocodiles in two rivers in as many days, the villagers are so scared that they have stopped going to the river, said sources.

Kanas being a riparian area, the people here depend on both Daya and Rajua rivers for their daily chores and to earn a livelihood by catching fish. As they have stopped going to the rivers following the sighting of the aquatic animals, they are at the receiving end thinking how they would manage things these days.
