A Covid-19 case has been detected in the city, Cuttack Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Prashant Hota confirmed on Friday.

The patient, a 44-year-old resident, has not travelled recently, as per the official statements. The infection was identified after the individual exhibited symptoms of a cold and fever. The patient is currently under home quarantine.
Worth mentioning, a fresh case of coronavirus (Covid-19) emerged in Bhubaneswar on May 22, sparking fears about potential resurgence of the virus in the State. The infected person who had returned to Bhubaneswar from Delhi tested positive for the virus.
The patient was immediately placed under treatment in a private hospital in the city as a precautionary measure. He is still undergoing treatment for the viral infection, and the local authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
Odisha Health Department on Wednesday confirmed the detection of five new Covid-19 positive cases in the State, raising concerns about a possible resurgence of infections. According to official sources, four of the infected individuals are residents of Bhubaneswar, while one case was reported from Khordha town.
Among the five cases, four are male and one is female. Health authorities have initiated contact tracing and containment measures in the affected areas. The infected individuals have been shifted to isolation facilities and are currently under medical supervision.
Community concerns
The detection has raised public anxiety about renewed restrictions, particularly given the patient's urban residence. Health officials emphasise enhanced testing and mask protocols in high-density areas.
National surge context
India is experiencing a nationwide Covid-19 resurgence, with hospitals reporting around 28 percent increases in patients presenting fever, diarrhoea, and voice-related symptoms. This aligns with the Cuttack patient’s clinical presentation.

Public health response
Local authorities initiated contact tracing and isolation protocols following the positive test. Healthcare facilities in Odisha have reported increased OPD visits for flu-like symptoms.
