COVID-19 cases in Odisha have seen a slight increase, with the total number of active cases reaching 15 on Monday. According to the state Health Department, the number had earlier stood at 12, and new cases pushed the overall count upward. However, authorities have clarified that the rate of increase is not alarming and does not warrant panic.

Health officials stated that there is currently no major surge in infections, and only individuals showing significant symptoms are being tested. Routine testing is ongoing, and out of the total tests conducted, only a very small percentage are returning positive.
“There is no cause for concern at this stage. Testing is being done selectively, and results are well under control,” a senior health officer said.

Advice For Public

In light of this development, the public has been advised to remain vigilant and continue following basic safety measures. Citizens are urged to avoid crowded places, wear face masks in public areas, use gloves when necessary, and maintain proper hand hygiene. The health department reiterated the importance of personal responsibility in preventing the spread of the virus, especially in the upcoming festive season.

With the world-famous Puri Rath Yatra approaching, the Odisha government is taking the situation seriously. A high-level review meeting is scheduled to be held in Puri very soon to assess the preparedness for the grand event in light of the recent rise in cases. The meeting will include key stakeholders from the state administration, with the health department expected to present its opinion and recommendations.

Final decisions regarding crowd management, health protocols, and emergency preparedness will be taken based on expert advice and the evolving COVID-19 situation.

Authorities have also urged the public not to let their guard down, emphasizing that vigilance and responsible behaviour are essential to prevent any resurgence of infections.
