A tragic incident unfolded in Bayahatu village on the Odisha-Jharkhand border under Jagannathpur police station limits in Keonjhar, where a couple lost their lives after being bitten by a venomous snake while asleep.
The deceased have been identified as Nani Jarai and his wife, Kabita Jarai.
According to local sources, the snake entered their house during the night and bit the couple as they slept on the floor. The incident came to light early Thursday morning when family members found them unresponsive and rushed them to the Champua Sub-Divisional Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The incident has left the local community in shock and raised concerns over the increasing number of snakebite cases in the region. Locals expressed sorrow over the loss and called for preventive measures.

Snakebite cases are not uncommon in the rural and forested belts of Keonjhar, especially during the monsoon season when snakes often enter homes seeking warmth or shelter. Villagers have urged authorities to increase awareness and ensure the availability of anti-venom treatments at remote health centers.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident to ensure no further threat remains from venomous snakes in the area.
