In a strong move against corruption, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi ordered the dismissal of Dr. Karunakar Raut, the former Medical Officer of Madhuban Community Health Centre in Jajpur district.
Dr. Raut is currently serving as the Senior Medical Officer in the Mental Health and Cancer Department at Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital.
A case had been registered against Dr. Raut by the Cuttack Vigilance Department, following which departmental proceedings were initiated. He was earlier suspended from duty and subjected to various disciplinary actions.
Based on the verdict pronounced by the Vigilance Court, which found Dr. Raut guilty, the state government has now officially terminated his service.
This move is being seen as part of the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption in public service.
In a strong crackdown on corruption, the Odisha government has dismissed as many as 159 officials from service over the last five years on charges of corruption and accumulation of assets beyond their known sources of income.

According to the official data shared in the Odisha Assembly, 120 government officers and employees have been terminated, while an additional 39 officials were forced into compulsory retirement due to serious allegations of misconduct and financial irregularities. The state government has also seized Rs 59.47 crore worth of illegal assets from officials accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to their income.
The Vigilance Department has registered a staggering 3,623 corruption-related cases across the state between 2014 and February 2025. Out of these, 2,553 cases have been disposed of, leading to legal action against multiple offenders.
