Senior leader Suresh Routray made a notable return to the Congress, after the previous order of suspension and expulsion was revoked by the newly appointed Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president, Bhakta Charan Das.

Routray arrived at the party office in Bhubaneswar accompanied by his eldest son, Siddharth Routray, and a group of supporters, marking his first visit since the revocation of his suspension.

The leader was previously suspended due to allegations of anti-party activities during the election period. However, under the new leadership of Bhakta Das, who recently assumed the role of Congress president, the suspension orders against Routray and other members have been annulled.

The revocation signals a new chapter within the party, suggesting a move towards unity and cooperation.

Routray’s arrival at Congress Bhawan was met with a warm reception from supporters, showcasing significant support within the party.

The former MLA’s suspension and subsequent return highlight the dynamics within party politics and the shifting alliances within the Indian National Congress.

“I was kept out for nearly nine months from the Congress. I thank Rahul Gandhi, Bhakta Das and others who have taken this decision. I urge all the leaders, who have left the party, to return to the party fold,” said Routray.

According to Routray, the Odisha Congress will certainly perform well in the upcoming panchayat, municipal and other elections. The party has a long time to get united and give a strong fight to the opposition parties.

“The Congress party will rise in Odisha and I appeal all to work unitedly,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the new PCC president Bhakta Das is scheduled to lead a Sankalpa Padyatra to the abode of Lord Jagannath in Puri soon and  a 17-member coordination committee has been formed to organise the event.
