The Odisha Legislative Assembly on Friday witnessed a stormy session as there was a heated discussion during the adjournment motion moved by the Congress over the incident of Lord Balabhadra slipping on the charamala while being taken from the Taladhwaja chariot to Gundicha temple on July 9.
The Congress said such a mishap had never happened. The grand old party said that the government is hushing up the incident and it is a matter of sorrow and concern.
“The incident of Lord Balabhadra slipping on the charamala during the Pahandi ritual this year is a huge mishap. But the government is not accepting it. They are trying to get out of it by citing some excuses,” said Ashok Das, Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
The Opposition BJD also cornered the BJP-led government, saying the government is taking the incident lightly. It wished to know what action was taken against the non-servitors who climbed atop the chariots.

“The government as well as the Law Minister is not accepting it (the mishap). So we staged a walkout. Odisha people and devotees across the globe were watching the live telecast of the Rath Yatra when Lord Balabhadra slipped on the charamala. But the government is taking it very lightly,” said BJD MLA Byomakesh Roy.
While responding to the statements of the Congress and BJD leaders, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said, “The adjournment motion was moved on a false and baseless matter. The disruption of rituals started during the rule of the BJD. They staged a walkout today because they don’t have the patience to hear it out. And the Congress followed suit. If the Jagannath Culture is safe, Odia Asmita will also be safe. So it will be our top priority to save the Jagannath Culture during our entire tenure.”
