After the serious drubbing of the BJD in the elections, party leaders one after another are opening up about the reasons that proved detrimental for the party.
After BJD corporator Amaresh Jena, former Paradip MLA Sambit Routray, Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Pravat Biswal and party leader Nrusingha Sahu, senior leader Debi Prasad Mishra on Saturday ascribed the party’s debacle to complacency among leaders and workers.
“Complacency among us is the reason. If a government lasts for a long period, everything becomes a bit sluggish, if not lazy. It was reflected in the election results. Those who laboured hard, they won. Nrusingha Sahu has also spoken about this complacency,” said Mishra.

Meanwhile, senior party leader Sudhir Samal countered the statement of Nrusingha Sahu.
Comparing his party to a tree, Samal said, “The tree is alive. It has only shed its leaves. New leaves will come if watered. But there are some who have a habit of cutting such trees. They who were aspiring for positions may be giving such statements. I have nothing to say about that. There are instances when a rich person has many people around him. But when he becomes poor, they don’t hesitate to desert him and go to another rich person.”
