Commissionerate Police busts duplicate vehicle parts racket in Bhubaneswar
The Commissonerate Police on Wednesday busted a racket dealing in counterfeit vehicle parts at Rajarani Colony under Baragada police limits in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the illegal trade hub was involved in selling duplicate spare parts of popular brands like Honda and TVS, along with counterfeit engine oil.
Seizure By The Police
During the raid, Badagada police seized materials used for manufacturing duplicate engine oil, including containers, stickers, and packaging items, source informed, adding that the crackdown took place at A K Auto Accessories, from where the counterfeit products were confiscated.
Meanwhile, authorities have warned vehicle owners to remain cautious while purchasing spare parts and engine oil, as substandard products can lead to severe damage.
“Acting on a tip off, we raided the unit and seized duplicate vehicle spare parts worth around Rs 15 lakh. We have found duplicate Castrol engine oil and counterfeit spare parts of TVS and Honda,” said Trupti Ranjan Nayak, Badagada police station IIC.

Two Persons Detained
“We have detained two persons in connection with the case and a detailed investigation into the matter is on to ascertain other’s involvement in the racket,” Nayak informed.
Risks of Counterfeit Auto Components
Duplicate parts increase accident risks by 47% (brake failures), reduce vehicle lifespan by 30-40%, and cause 22% higher emissions. The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association estimates 36% of aftermarket parts in India are counterfeit.
