Commissionerate Police bans use and sale of Chinese ‘manja’ in Cuttack
The Commissionerate Police has imposed a ban on Chinese ‘manja’ used as strings in kites in Cuttack.
Warning has been issued by police for stringent action against those who would sell Chinese manja and fly such kites.
Orissa High Court has also issued a directive to impose restrictions on the sale of Chinese manja.
Meanwhile, Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena said that IICs of all the police stations in Cuttack have been directed to nab the traders illegally selling Chinese manja.
“We have conducted meetings with the IICs of all the police stations in the city. Earlier, Orissa High Court issued an order to put restrictions on the illegal use of Chinese manja. The district administration also issued an order last year to ban the use of Chinese manja,” said DCP Meena.

“All the IICs have been put on alert to nab the traders illegally selling Chinese manja. The Chinese manja is quite dangerous and it can create injuries to human beings, animals and birds. We will not allow the sale of Chinese manja in the city,” he added.
Notably, despite a ban on Chinese manja, plastic threads and threads coated with fine glass particles continue to be sold at different places in the city, especially during kite-flying competitions causing inconvenience to many.
