Cold waves continued to sweep most parts of Odisha for the last one week with temperatures in most parts remaining under 15 degree Celsius on Thursday. G Udaygiri in Kandhamal shivered due to the bone-chilling temperature recorded at 4 degree Celsius while as many as 16 places recorded temperatures below 10 degree.
The cold condition will prevail in the state tomorrow, weathermen informed, adding that the severity of winter chill would decrease from Saturday by two to three degrees.
As per reports, most parts of Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Koraput, Angul, Bhubaneswar and other parts experienced biting cold conditions on Thursday too.
According to Regional Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar, for last one week, the night temperatures at most places have plummeted below 15 degree Celsius. In the last 24 hours, as many as 16 places recorded temperatures below 10 degree Celsius. G Udaygiri recorded temperature at 4 degree Celsius; Semiliguda 5.7 degree Celsius; Phulbani at 5.5 degree Celsius; Kirei at 6.6 degree Celsius: Koraput at 7.6 degree Celsius and Angul at 8 degree Celsius. Besides, Bhubaneswar recorded 12.4 degree Celsius and Cuttack at 12.8 degree Celsius.
Meteorologist Umashankar Das said that the winter chill that Odisha has been experiencing for the last several days will subside from Saturday, but most parts of the state will experience foggy conditions.
Speaking to the media, he said that the winter chill has been gripping the state for the last one week and it will continue tomorrow, but its severity will come down from the day after tomorrow due to a troupeline.
“Severe foggy conditions will prevail in many parts of the state in the mornings on December 23 and 24,” he said, adding that yellow warnings of the severe fogs have been issued.
Das also stated that more than normal fog will prevail in some interior districts of north Odisha. Warnings of dense fogs were sounded for 10 districts on December 23 while as many as 18 districts were on the alert about the same reason on December 24, he added. It was also predicted that the visibility distance would be less than 200 metres.
