Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan to assess the diarrhoea outbreak reported in six districts of the state. He stated that the situation is currently under control with a consistent decline in new cases, but advised all concerned departments to remain vigilant until Dussehra.
The affected districts—Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar—are witnessing a drop in infection numbers, with normalcy returning gradually. The CM commended the coordinated efforts of the Health Department and allied agencies in bringing the situation under control.
Emphasizing the need for continued preparedness, the CM instructed that proactive preventive steps be taken even in areas with no reported cases but with potential risk. He directed all health centres—from primary care units to medical colleges—to operate in a coordinated and effective manner.
Special focus has been placed on drinking water safety, with purification processes ongoing in all educational institutions. The CM has asked schools to strictly follow hygiene protocols and implement preventive health measures to ensure student safety.
Additionally, the CM called for stringent checks on food hygiene, especially at street food hubs, and instructed that public areas be disinfected. All tube wells in rural regions must be treated, and water quality should be tested regularly, he said.
As of now, Odisha has reported a total of 3,892 diarrhoea cases, with 3,543 recoveries and 254 patients still undergoing treatment.
The state government has intensified awareness drives through Information-Education-Communication (IEC) activities. Mission Shakti members, ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, and SHG members are actively engaging with communities to spread awareness and promote preventive measures.
The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary of Health Ashwathi S., and senior officials from the Panchayati Raj, Urban Development, Women & Child Welfare, and Education departments.
