Seven members of a family had a narrow escape after a car crashed into their mud house at Sansamura Square in Mahadevpali under the Binika police station in Sonepur district on Sunday.
All the family members escaped unhurt in the mishap. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the vehicle, filled with marijuana, veered off the road, causing significant damage to the house.
It is suspected that the car was involved in smuggling ganja (dry cannabis).
In a similar case, a car had met with an accident near the same spot last year. A huge quantity of ganja was recovered from the vehicle. Sources said that frequent accidents are happening on the road due to a sharp turn in the area. As a result, most of the drivers are losing control of the steering wheel.
As far as today's accident is concerned, the car was travelling at high speed towards Binika from Sonepur.
Many believe that the criminals are using the route to smuggle narcotics as there are few police stations in the area. A lot of ganja-laden vehicles have been seized by police and excise department officials on the route in the past.
The driver fled the scene after the crash. On getting information, Binika police seized the vehicle and initiated an investigation into the incident.
