A 10th-standard student was allegedly found dead in the toilet of the Kalinga Adarsha Vidyalaya, located in Nuagaon under the Khajuripada Police Station of Kandhamal District, Odisha on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Anandeswar Mallik, a resident of Balisugri village, which also falls under the jurisdiction of Khajuripada Police.
As per sources, the body of the student was discovered hanging in the toilet and was subsequently recovered by the local police. The exact cause of death remained unclear. However, family members of the deceased have alleged foul play, accusing that their son was murdered. The family of the deceased filed a complaint at the Khajuripada Police Station, calling for an investigation into the matter.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of students in residential schools, especially in remote areas. Authorities are currently looking into the case, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
“I would hold the school faculty responsible for the death of my brother. Some time ago, my brother had complained to me about a certain teacher but I advised him to focus more on the subject and perform better,” said the deceased’s brother.
Meanwhile, Rabi Mishra, Distrcict Welfare Officer said, “The school principal has filed a written complaint with the police stating that the student committed suicide. We will conduct a departmental investigation after the probe by police.”
Saroj Kumar Sahoo, school principal said, “I received a call regarding the incident earlier today and informed the DWO. Today our students were going to attend a block-level science exhibition so the concerned faculty was with the students until around 07:00 PM on Tuesday and everything was okay until then. I would say that there was no negligence on our part as this happened after midnight.”
“This might have happened after midnight because I was with the students till 08:00 PM preparing for the block-level science exhibition. Even we are shocked about this as he was a good student and upon questioning his roommates, they said that he seemed okay. The deceased student had asked for study notes from his friends around 11:30 PM as well,” said Ajit Dehuri, Science teacher.
