A class-1 girl student from Badadeula village under Gajapati’s Goshani block was locked up in the classroom for four hours after school.

The incident was reported on Wednesday when after school, the girl failed to show up at home.

Her parents launched a frantic search all over the village fearing the worst. However, their joy knew no bounds after finding the child sleeping inside the classroom.

The grandfather of the girl said, “The Headmaster did not check before locking up the school. We searched all over the village for more than three hours and found her at the school.”

“The BDO had sent a vehicle to take her to hospital for a medical check-up. She was discharged after first aid,” he added.

Asked about the incident, the headmaster, G Kameya said, “The peon could not see her while locking the school. After school, the girl slept on the last bench in the classroom. So the peon could not see her.”

Meanwhile, villagers vented their anger alleging negligence by the Headmaster and other teachers, following which the headmaster apologised and assured them to be careful in the future.
