Even as uncertainty looms over the conduct of students’ union elections across Odisha, tensions have already begun surfacing on college campuses. A violent clash broke out on Monday between two student groups at SVM College in Jagatsinghpur, leading to multiple injuries and heightened concerns over campus safety.

The incident occurred inside the college campus when members of two rival student groups engaged in a physical altercation. Eyewitnesses reported heated arguments that quickly escalated into violence, leaving several students injured. One student sustained a serious head injury, and the college premises were left bloodstained following the scuffle.

With growing political activity despite no official announcement on elections, student leaders have been actively mobilizing support. The situation turned volatile, prompting both groups to file separate complaints at the Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station.

Given the sensitivity of the situation and the potential for further unrest, police have been deployed on the college campus as a precautionary measure. Security has been tightened, and additional personnel have been stationed to monitor student activities and maintain order.

While investigations are underway, the exact cause of the clash remains unclear.

The college administration has appealed for calm and assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of inciting violence.
