The residents of Kanibanka area under Marshaghai block in Kendrapara district have raised serious concerns after insects and worms were allegedly found inside sattu and suji packets provided by the local Anganwadi centre in the district.

The locals have alleged that the Self Help Group entrusted with the distribution is supplying substandard sattu and suji in the region.

“I got the sattu and suji packets on 20th September. When I opened the packets on the very next day, worms and insects were found. When I informed the Anganwadi worker she expressed her helplessness saying that she cannot do anything as it was being supplied by the SHG group. I have brought the matter to the notice of the ward member,” said a local resident of Kanibanka.

Responding to the allegations, Puspanjali Pradhan, an Anganwadi worker in Kanibanka area, said, “No one has consumed the sattu. This is the first time that the women in the area have raised such allegations.”

Meanwhile, Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has assured exemplary action against those who are compromising with the children’s food by supplying substandard sattu and suji.

“A detailed discussion on the supply of substandard sattu was held in the Odisha Assembly and the Speaker has also taken up the matter very seriously. Exemplary action will be taken against those who will be found supplying cheap sattu for the children. There will be no compromise in the food of the children in the future,” Parida added.
