A man from Rajkanika area on Tuesday brought serious allegations of child swapping at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The complainant, Pranakrushna Parija alleged that his wife delivered a child at around 10:30 pm yesterday. His family was informed about the delivery of a male child. However, they found that it was a girl child when they tried to take a picture of the infant, alleged Parija.
Parija’s family is now demanding a DNA test to ascertain the truth. Moreover, he was refuted to take the child till report comes in.
“The workers informed me that my wife delivered a boy. There were security guards and other patients attendants who heard it as well. When I removed the cloth, I was shocked to see that it was a baby girl,” alleged Parija.
According to Parija, the doctor subsequently came and told him that it was a mistake on part of the attendant. “I suspect that my child has been swapped. If I am wrong, the authorities should conduct a DNA test of both babies,” Parija demanded.
Capital Hospital Director, Laxmidhar Sahu said, “If the allegations are true, it is serious. As per the preliminary investigation, I am told that the complainant’s wife delivered a girl child. But it was a slip of tongue on part of the attendant who said that it was a baby boy while handing over the baby.”
The Director further said that a Committee has been set up and efforts will be made to convince the couple. If nothing materialises, the matter will be referred to the police and subsequently steps will be taken for a DNA test to ascertain the biological parents of the child.
