Tension flared up at Jajpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) over the death of a two-year-old girl allegedly due to medical negligence on Thursday.
The agitating family members of the deceased girl relented only after the Chief District Medical Officer, Dr Sibashis Maharana assured them of an investigation and action against the staff responsible.
According to a source, Ajit Kumar Nayak, a resident of Similia village under Sadar Police Limits of Jajpur district had admitted his daughter to the Jajpur DHH for treatment. Later she was shifted to the fourth floor of the Maternal and Child Care building. While undergoing treatment, she breathed her last. Ajit alleged his daughter died due to negligence on the part of the doctor on duty at that time.
“We noticed her condition was deteriorating. At around 10.20 am, the doctor came. He was in his chamber waiting for the arrival of nurses. Then we approached him and requested him to attend to my daughter as her condition was deteriorating. But he paid no heed to our requests. Rather he went on his usual rounds. By the time he came to my daughter, she was already dead,” alleged Ajit.
After the death of the baby girl, the family members and relatives created a ruckus demanding action against the doctor who was on duty at that time.
Later, CDMO Sibashis Maharana reached the spot, held discussions with the aggrieved family members, and assured them of action against the responsible persons.
“Today, we have called for an emergency meeting of staff nurses. And we will take stringent action against whoever is found guilty,” said Maharana.
