In a bid to enhance rural connectivity and boost economic growth in Odisha, the Centre has sanctioned 26 road projects in the State under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) scheme.

As per reports, the Centre will provide Rs 69.65 crore to the State for the construction of roads covering 63.271 kilometers and two long-span bridges (LSBs) under the scheme.

This adds to the existing infrastructure, with 66 roads spanning 211.14 kilometers and four long-span bridges previously approved by the Ministry of Rural Development at a cost of Rs. 219.40 crore.

Aim of The Projects

As per sources, these projects aim to provide all-weather road connectivity to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations, improving socio-economic conditions and fostering economic development.

The initiative will also enhance access to essential services like healthcare, education, and markets, creating employment opportunities and aligning with the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

PM-JANMAN Scheme

The PM-JANMAN scheme reportedly aims at providing basic facilities to 75 PVTG communities across 18 states and one union territory, with a total budgetary provision of Rs. 24,104 crore. 

The initiative also includes 11 critical interventions implemented by nine ministries, covering aspects like safe housing, clean drinking water, education, health, nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, electrification, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
