Celebrations at Nandankanan Zoo as Tigress Mousumi gives birth to 2 new cubs
A joyous occasion has unfolded at Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, with the birth of two tiger cubs. The cubs were delivered by Mousumi, a white tigress, on Saturday night. Zoo officials have confirmed that one cub has the typical orange coat of a Bengal tiger, while the other boasts the distinctive white coat characteristic of white tigers.
Both the mother and the cubs are under constant CCTV surveillance. The sex of the cubs can only be determined following a physical examination in the future.
Early Life Monitoring
The zoo team is diligently monitoring Mousumi and her cubs to ensure their health and safety. Officials stated, “Both mother and cubs are healthy, and we are taking all necessary measures to support them.”
Proud Parents Born and Bred in Odisha
The birth marks a significant milestone for the zoo, as both Mousumi, born in 2016, and her mate Rajesh, born in 2018, were born at Nandankanan. The pair was united earlier this year in February, leading to this delightful development.
The arrival of these two cubs has brought the park's tiger population to a total of 29, enhancing the park's contribution to wildlife conservation and breeding efforts.
Worth mentioning, the white tigress, Mousumi was born at Nandankanan in 2016, to Tiger Manish and Tigress Sneha. Despite being eight years old, all her prior mating attempts failed to deliver offspring.
