In a horrific accident, at least three persons were killed and as many as two persons were critically injured after a car rammed into an auto-rickshaw near Khandahata in Angul on Saturday.
Following the accident, the auto reportedly plunged into a pool of muddy water, trapping the injured victims inside. Immediate rescue operations were launched by local authorities and emergency responders to evacuate the victims from the precarious situation.
As per the latest report, the five injured persons were eventually rescued and rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. However, three of them, including a couple and the auto driver, were declared dead.
As per reports, the auto was going from Angul to Narsinghpur, and the car was coming from the opposite direction when the accident occurred near Khandahata. The car driver is reportedly on the run.
However, the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Local police have started an investigation into the incident.

Earlier in June this year, as many as three persons were grievously injured following a chain of accidents near the Unit-2 petrol pump in Bhubaneswar.
The incident, which involved multiple vehicles, caused panic in the area, highlighting the growing concerns over rash driving in the city.
According to eyewitnesses, the serial accidents happened when a car rammed into an auto-rickshaw from behind. As per initial reports, the driver of the car was allegedly driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
