Keeping the surge in the number of dengue patients in view, a special dengue testing counter has been opened at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Informing about the development, Public Health Director, Dr Niranjan Mishra said, “A special testing counter for dengue patients has started functioning from the Capital Hospital from today. I am here to clarify that people have a misconception regarding platelet count. They think a decrease in platelet counts requires hospitalisation. But that is wrong. One does not need platelet transfusion even if his platelet count comes down to 20,000.”
“In order to reduce the congestion in the Capital Hospital, an additional 10 beds for Dengue patients have been arranged at BMC hospital, Unit IV hospital, Patia Urban CHC and Dumduma Urban CHC. The nearby people should visit these hospitals. In the worst case, they can come to the Capital Hospital,” he said.
Apart from the special Dengue testing centre at the Capital Hospital, two more testing centers will start functioning from Patia CHC and IRC Village Urban PHC from Monday, informed Dr Mishra.
Dr Mishra further said that the Dengue situation in the state is in a plateau state. “In the state, around 120 to 130 Dengue patients are testing positive on a daily basis. Similarly, in Bhubaneswar, around 60 to 70 new cases are being detected daily.”
A total of 2,943 patients were tested positive for Dengue by August 25. Of them, Khordha district registered the highest number of 1,369 cases, followed by Puri (308), Balasore (276), Cuttack (208), Jagatsinghpur (169) and Nayagarh (103).
