Robbers break into a house in Anandapur, Odisha and loot gold ornaments worth over Rs 5 lakh after cutting through the window grill. The incident took place at the residence of one Markand Ojha near Bancho Chhak under the jurisdiction of Anandapur police station.
The robbery took place late last night after the family had gone to sleep. The thieves reportedly entered the house by cutting the window grill. It has been alleged that more than 50 grams of gold ornaments, along with Rs 5,000 in cash, were stolen from inside the house.
Following a complaint filed at the local police station, police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
Armed Robbery in Balasore Village
In a similar incident reported in the recent past, seven armed robbers stormed the house of Rabindra Nayak in Dayanidhipur village under Soro police limits, Balasore district, late May 22 night. They looted gold jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash after assaulting the family members and tying them up. Two neighbours, Rohit Nayak and Balaram Raut, sustained bullet injuries while attempting to stop the robbers. Balaram, who was shot in the chest, was in critical condition. The injured were shifted from Soro hospital to Balasore DHH. Soro police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Burglary at Businessman’s House in Bhubaneswar
In another case, thieves allegedly looted gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 5 lakh and Rs 70,000 in cash from a businessman’s residence in Lingipur under Dhauli police station, Bhubaneswar, on night of April 26. The stolen items included two gold necklaces, two gold chains, rings, bangles, and cash. The incident, which occurred while the family was away attending a jatra, was captured on nearby CCTV cameras. A forensic team is assisted the police in the investigation after an FIR was lodged by the family.
