Brown sugar smuggler injured in police encounter in Bhubaneswar, drugs worth Rs 20 lakh seized
A notorious brown sugar peddler, Sheikh Jamshed, was injured in a police encounter in the Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar late Thursday night. The operation was carried out by the Special Crime Unit of the Commissionerate Police.
According to sources, Sheikh Jamshed, who is considered a key figure in the illegal drug trade in the region, was cornered by the police based on a tip-off. As the police attempted to apprehend him, Jamsed allegedly opened fire on the officers, prompting them to retaliate. In the exchange, he sustained a bullet injury to his leg, sources informed.

Police have seized brown sugar worth Rs 20 lakh from the scene, dealing a significant blow to the narcotics network operating in the state capital.
Admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar
Sheikh Jamshed, in a critical condition, has been admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment. Sources from the hospital confirm that he is currently under observation, and his condition remains serious but stable.
Commissionerate Police sources revealed that Jamsed had been under surveillance for months and was involved in multiple cases of drug trafficking. The successful encounter marks a crucial breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against narcotics in the state.
