The Infocity police busted a land shark gang involved in illegally grabbing and occupying properties belonging to other people. Three main accused have been arrested in this connection while the manhunt to nab the other gang members is underway, informed DCP Prateek Singh.

The three were produced before the court and later remanded to judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected.

The modus operandi of the scamsters was to prepare power of attorney in the name of a dead person and occupy lands and properties illegally.

As per the complaint, they had tried to illegally occupy a woman’s house near KIIT square. When the woman resisted, at least 10-15 of them barged into her property with a JCB and bulldozed her house boundary. They even threatened her with dire consequences if she did not leave the property and extracted money from her.

Based on a complaint by the woman, Infocity police arrested the three main accused while others involved are on the run.

“On September 2, at around 1:30PM, 10 to 15 people led by Manash Sahoo, Jagdish Patsani and Niranjan Rout, illegally demolished the victim’s house boundary wall and tried to grab her property. They had even given her life threats to vacate her house. They even misbehaved with her and extracted money from her,” informed DCP Prateek Singh.

“We have arrested three people in this connection and forwarded them to court. Further probe is on,” he added.
