In a brazen display of lawlessness, the Chairperson of Tarbha Block in Subarnapur district, along with a local sarpanch and a samiti member, was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants while travelling to lodge a complaint about block-level irregularities.
The incident occurred on August 12 and has since sparked outrage, especially after video footage of the assault surfaced.
Attack Caught on Camera
The visuals, which have been widely circulated, show several men intercepting a vehicle in the middle of the road and launching a violent assault. The assailants can be seen repeatedly striking the vehicle with sticks and rods, pounding it from multiple directions.
According to local sources, the attackers blocked the road, forcing the occupants to stop before the assault began. The victims were reportedly on their way to meet the district collector to submit a complaint regarding alleged irregularities in Tarabha Block administration.
However, midway through their journey, they were ambushed by the group, leaving the vehicle visibly damaged.
Political and Administrative Ramifications
Police are yet to confirm the identities of the attackers, though officials said an investigation has been launched based on the complaint filed by the victims. The administration is also reviewing the video footage to identify the culprits.
