The Odisha unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday staged a unique protest in front of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office against the mosquito menace in the smart city.
The saffron party tied domestic mosquito nets to the gate of BMC and sat inside them protesting the growing mosquito menace with which residents of the Odisha Capital are fighting every day.
They not only kept mosquito nets, but they also created smoke as a mark of protest against the BMC Commissioner and the Mayor blaming them for the public suffering.
Speaking to the media, BJP Spokesperson, Dilip Mohanty said, “The BMC is collecting all types of taxes to provide basic services to the Bhubaneswar residents. The mosquito menace is such that forget about the night, mosquitoes are even biting in the daytime.”
“The Commissioner had said about deploying drones to spray mosquito oil. But why did the situation get that far? Let me tell you, this drone deployment is just another ploy to get some money in their pockets,” alleged Mohanty.
BJP District President, Khordha, Babu Singh said, “The BMC is far from providing basic facilities to the Bhubaneswar residents. Its main aim has become earning money from parking places, floating tenders for events etc. We want to warn the Corporation, we will take this protest to the streets as well.”
BMC commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange had earlier informed that drones will be used to spray chemicals in the inaccessible areas of the city where vehicles cannot reach.
Besides, the civic body has planned to increase the number of vehicles engaged in carrying out fogging activity in the city. More teams will be engaged in cutting bushes. Moreover, technical teams will undertake surveys in the areas where breeding of mosquitoes is high, the BMC had claimed.
