A political war of words has erupted after TMC MP Yusuf Pathan wrote a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, raising serious concerns over the alleged mistreatment of migrant labourers from West Bengal in Odisha.
The matter took a sharp turn when senior Odisha BJP leader Anil Biswal issued a strong rebuttal through social media, accusing Pathan of misleading the nation and politicizing sensitive issues.
In his letter, Yusuf Pathan, the Member of Parliament from Murshidabad, alleged that migrant workers from districts like Murshidabad and Berhampore, working in Odisha, were being subjected to inhumane treatment and abuse. Seeking urgent intervention, he urged the central government to inquire into the matter and ensure the safety and dignity of West Bengal-origin labourers.
However, BJP's Anil Biswal lashed out at Pathan, terming his allegations as baseless and politically motivated. In a strongly worded social media post, Biswal claimed that many of the individuals Pathan referred to as "migrant workers" are actually illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh and Rohingya communities, who have entered India using forged documents, facilitated by political forces in West Bengal for vote-bank politics.
“These infiltrators are disturbing the social harmony and cultural fabric of Odisha. They carry fake identity documents, distributed with the help of the ruling regime in Bengal, and misuse them to claim legitimacy in other states,” wrote Biswal.
He also took a sharp dig at Pathan, questioning his selective outrage, asking, “Where was your voice when Hindus were attacked in Murshidabad?”
Biswal concluded his post by stating, “This is the time to fight back against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and illegal infiltration, not to shield those undermining national security under the guise of human rights.”
