A local BJP leader sustained critical injuries after he was allegedly attacked by unidentified miscreants near College Square, Aska of Ganjam district. He was rescued in critical condition and admitted to Aska sub-divisional hospital.

After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital after his condition worsened. He has been identified as Srinibas Bhanj. While no exact for the attack was known immediately, Srinibas has alleged that he was attacked over political rivalry.

According to sources, Srinibas was on his way home when he was waylaid by the miscreants near College Square. The miscreants hit him with sharp-edged weapons and iron rods, leaving him critically injured.

Hearing his screams for help, passers-by came to his rescue and admitted him to the hospital.

“I couldn’t see them properly. But, there were 2-3 of them who had come on a bike. They came from nowhere and attacked me with sharp-edged weapons. Earlier, also they had threatened me on the phone,” alleged the victim.
