Alleging large-scale irregularities, hundreds of workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a demonstration outside the block office in Puri on Monday. BJP leaders including Jayant Sarangi and Upasana Mohapatra lambasted the BJD-led state government over their alleged corrupt practices in official work and irregularities in the implementation of various projects and programmes.
Launching an attack on the block administration, Puri Sadar MLA Jayant Sarangi said, ”There is no transparency in official work and project implementation. The roots of corruption have been spreading from the block office to the villages.”
The legislator warned that the party is appalled at the rate at which corruption is being promoted in all works and the party will intensify its fight against corruption in the days to come. “Common people are suffering. If they shed tears, the government will break down,” he observed.
BJP leader, Upasana Mohapatra said, “People are suffering because of widespread corruption. Pension money for elderly people is being misappropriated. Commission is also being taken from people for enrolment in the social security schemes.”
As per reports, the BJP workers took out a massive rally from the Sri Gundicha temple to the block office. The agitating saffron party activists accused the block administration of indulging in corruption instead of redressing the issues of the common people.
