The expenditure incurred by the previous BJD government on its flagship youth and education-oriented programmes sparked a heated debate in the Odisha Assembly on Friday.

In a written reply, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj revealed that the state government spent more than Rs 261.63 crore on the Nua-O scheme. If any specific complaints or allegations arise regarding irregularities in the use of funds, a formal inquiry would be ordered to ensure accountability, the minister further clarified.

Likewise, the Sports Minister disclosed that the government had spent a staggering Rs 183.67 crore in the last two years on the Biju Yuva Vahini. The youth brigade has been one of the BJD’s flagship initiatives to promote sports, community service, and leadership development among young people.
