A seven-member delegation of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is set to visit New Delhi tomorrow to delve into matters concerning the Polavaram project, the BJD said on Monday.

The team's objectives include gathering detailed information and presenting their demands to various governmental bodies. Members will be in the Capital City until November 5, during which they aim to meet representatives from the Central Water Commission, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Tribal Affairs department, the party sources said.

Notable figures in the delegation include Debi Prasad Mishra, MP Manas Mangaraj, Sasmit Patra, and former legislator Manas Madkami. The Central government has earmarked financial assistance of around Rs 15,000 Crore for the Polavaram project.

Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is actively working to expedite the Polavaram project's progress. However, the BJD is determined to address and resolve concerns related to the Polavaram developments effectively.

“Concern of BJD doubled after the Union Finance Minister recently sanctioned Rs 15,000 Crore for the project. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu said 4-5 days ago that the construction work is going on in full swing to complete the project by 2027,” senior BJD leader Debi Mishra stated in a presser.

“At this juncture when the backwater studies are not done, statutory clearances are not revisited following unilateral alteration of the project design, and in a situation where Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) stayed the NGT order and accorded clearance to Andhra government, we are going to put forth our demands in Delhi. After obtaining their responses we will decide the next course of action,” BJD leader Mishra said.

Reacting to this, Chikiti BJP MLA Manoranjan Dyan Samantara expressed, “Bharatiya Janata Party is always active and has given importance to the Polavaram developments. Mohan Majhi government in Odisha is also keeping a strict vigil on it. Biju Janata Dal has only been shedding crocodile tears, which is ridiculous.”

“BJD was in power in Odisha for the last 24 years and what were they doing?” the BJP MLA questioned while speaking to mediapersons.
