Poultry Farming
In response to the spread of bird flu, the Puri district administration has imposed a 3-month ban on poultry farming. This ban affects the Pipili, Delang, Nimapara, and Satyabadi areas, where no poultry farming will be permitted within a 1-kilometer radius of the infected zones.
As part of the containment measures, poultry farming is prohibited within these areas, and chickens will not be allowed to be transported outside a 10-kilometer radius. This ensures the virus is contained locally and prevents it from spreading to other regions.
To monitor the situation, chicken samples will be tested every 15 days. If the test results come back negative, authorities will reassess the need for further action. These measures are aimed at controlling the spread of bird flu and safeguarding public health, while ensuring thorough monitoring, said an official.
The ban is expected to remain in place for three months or until the situation improves. Authorities will continue to monitor and reevaluate conditions as new data becomes available.
Notably, over the last twelve days, bird flu has been spreading across the state. Initially detected in Puri and Pipili, it was later confirmed in Kendrapara district. Following the detection of the H5N1 avian influenza strain, the local administration undertook a massive culling of birds.
In addition to culling, extensive disinfection measures are being implemented in affected areas to control the virus. Residents in infected zones have been advised to avoid contact with birds and report any sick or dead poultry to authorities immediately. To prevent further spread, a temporary ban has been imposed on the sale and transportation of poultry products from the region.
