The Higher Education Department of the Government of Odisha has proposed the establishment of five new women NCC battalions in the state. This initiative is part of a comprehensive expansion plan aimed at enhancing the reach and impact of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), with a focus on increasing the participation of girl students.
Letter Sent To Odisha NCC Director
The Department has written to the Director of NCC, Odisha, Col. Satyabrata Swain, seeking information related to the necessary background, human resources, and the timeline required for making the proposed battalions operational. The department has assured that all necessary support for raising and maintaining these units will be provided by the government.
Focus On Training, Skill & Leadership
The present strength of NCC cadets in Odisha stands at 63,000. With this expansion, the Higher Education Department aims to raise the number to 90,000. Through the establishment of these new battalions, the state government intends to ensure active participation of women in the NCC, while placing special emphasis on the cadets’ skill development, training, youth leadership, and their role in nation-building.
Instructions For Detailed Proposal Issued
Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, in his letter, has requested the NCC Director to submit a comprehensive proposal at the earliest. The proposal should include a district-wise or region-wise deployment plan, infrastructure and administrative requirements, manpower and training logistics, and an estimated timeline for roll-out.
