Elmentoz Research, a deeptech biotech startup recently achieved glory at the recently concluded Startup Mahakumbh Grand Challenge Award 2025 held in Delhi. The Bhubaneswar-based company won the award from the Minister of Industry and Supply, Piyush Goyal, for its ground breaking technology that revolutionises animal feed industry.
The speciality is that the company is on a mission to make it antibiotics free which is the cause of world’s biggest threat that is antimicrobial resistance to human which pass through the food chain.

Founded by Jayashankar Das, a renowned biotechnologist and technocrat turned entrepreneur, Elmentoz is a smart alternative protein company pioneering insect-based solutions for sustainable animal nutrition. By leveraging Black Soldier Fly (BSF) biotechnology, Elmentoz transforms organic waste into high-quality protein, oil, and biofertilizer.
Das hails from Chauliaganj area in Cuttack. He is an acclaimed deep-tech biotechnologist whose journey blends grassroots commitment with global recognition. A PhD in Biotechnology and a Gold Medalist for Excellence in Biotechnology, honoured by the then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
Jayashankar Das has long been at the forefront of translating research hence into scalable solutions. He has authored more than 80 high-impact scientific publications, holds 8 patents, and has written eight books in biotechnology and allied technologies.
Along with Das, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Padmaja Mohanty is playing a crucial role with her expertise. With a PhD in Biotechnology from Gujarat University and more than a decade of experience in metabolic engineering, feed-based immunity, and animal health research, she has played a critical role in transforming Elmentoz's core technology. Her expertise in antimicrobial peptides and biological disease control drives the product design and functional efficacy.
