If you own a house in Bhubaneswar for residence but are using it for commercial purposes, you may end up paying higher holding taxes.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to be stern on house owners who are using their residential houses for commercial purposes.

While briefing journalists after a meeting on revenue collection, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said there are many such house owners who are using their domestic houses for commercial purposes but are still paying holding tax at domestic rates.

“I would like to request the people of Bhubaneswar that they should deposit their holding tax in time. There are many such people who have houses for domestic purposes but are using them commercially. Such people are paying holding tax for domestic purposes. So they have to pay revised tax after reassessment through Bhubaneswar.me,” said Kulange.

“Similarly, there are many such businessmen who are doing business without having a trade license. I would also like to request them to get the license and deposit the fee on time,” he added.

“Every Saturday, we will have a ward core committee meeting where issues relating to sanitation are discussed. During the meeting, we will also discuss revenue collection.  Problems relating to revenue collection in a particular ward and people’s doubts regarding revenue assessment will be discussed in the meetings,” he informed.
