Bhubaneswar Metro rail project to be completed by December 2027

The Bhubaneswar metro rail project, a major infrastructure initiative in Odisha, is set to be completed by December 2027. 

The ambitious development project aims to transform urban transport in Bhubaneswar, tackling traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity across key areas of the city.

As per sources, the metro trains will run on railway tracks 13 metres above the ground level. However, the height of the railway tracks will be higher at Rajmahal, Jayadev Vihar and Baranga.

Metro trains will reportedly run in the Capital City every 10 minutes. For this purpose, it has been planned to buy as many as 13 metro trains with three coaches each.

Soil testing for the metro rail project is currently being conducted. Soil samples are being collected below 50-60 metres from various places and those will be sent to different laboratories in Delhi and Cuttack for testing. The soil testing will be completed within two months.

Following the completion of the soil testing, foundation designing work will start. Meanwhile, casting yard work is also going on at Ghatikia for the metro rail project. Casting instruments for the project will be made from here. Similarly, project maintenance depot work is also going on at Ratagada near Trisulia.

Moreover, road expansion work from Sishu Bhawan Square to Raghunathpur in Bhubaneswar is also going on for the convenience of the commuters and the work will be completed within two months.
