Gruelling heat continued to scorch most parts of Odisha on Sunday too. Bhubaneswar was the hottest place in the state by 2:30 PM today as the mercury touched 43.2 degrees Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar recorded 42.7 degrees Celsius, Chandbali 42.2 degrees Celsius, Balasore 41.4 degrees Celsius, Rourkela 40.6 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda 39.9 degrees Celsius and Sambalpur 39.4 degrees Celsius by 2.30 pm.
The IMD has issued red warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khordha and Jajpur districts of Odisha for two days on April 29 and 30.
Weather scientist of IMD Bhubaneswar, Umashankar Das said that there is more than 70 per cent humidity. This is leading to sultry conditions in most parts. There is no possibility of any change in the hot and humid conditions, which are likely to prevail till May 2.
The weather scientist informed that the humidity level is 71 per cent in Bhubaneswar and 74 per cent in Cuttack. The overall humidity level stands at 65 per cent and above in coastal Odisha districts.
