The prestigious Bhubaneswar Club is witnessing a high-profile electoral battle, with two former Chief Secretaries, Asit Tripathy and Pradeep Jena, contesting directly for the post of president.
The election has generated considerable buzz in political and bureaucratic circles, turning the spotlight on the veteran–newcomer face-off.
Voting for the president’s post is being conducted on Sunday. Members can cast their ballots between 11 am and 5 pm, with polling held through ballot papers at five booths set up inside the club premises.
For the first time in the club’s history, the election process is being held over two days. E-voting began on Saturday for eligible members, while those who could not cast their votes digitally have the option to vote offline on Sunday.

Established in 1949, the Bhubaneswar Club is among the most prominent institutions of the city, and its presidential election is seen as a contest of influence and prestige.
Candidates and Campaigns
Veteran candidate Asit Tripathy is contesting the club election for the third time. Having previously served twice as president, a win this time would complete a hat-trick for him. His campaign slogan is “Development is a Journey.” Pradeep Jena, who retired as Chairman of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission, is contesting the club election for the first time. His campaign slogan is “Vote for Change.”
Support and Remarks
Former Chief Secretary Bijay Patnaik, who lost in the previous election, has indirectly extended his support to Pradeep Jena. At the same time, he made a veiled remark targeting Asit Tripathy, stating that it is not right for anyone to treat the club as their personal property.
