Bhubaneswar airport to get new terminal soon
The Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar is all set for a significant upgrade with plans to introduce a third terminal soon.
This development is poised to substantially increase the capacity and efficiency of the airport, which presently operates with terminals 1 and 2.
As per reports, the construction of terminal 3 is slated to begin within 30,000 square meters in the coming two to three months. According to the Airport authorities, the process for this has already been started and the work is likely to start in April 2025. Terminal 3 will have some ultra-modern facilities for the air passengers.
This project is anticipated to transform the aviation infrastructure of Odisha, a state known for its rich cultural heritage and growing economic importance.
As per sources, the estimated investment for this expansion stands at over Rs 1,000 crore. This substantial allocation of funds underscores the importance placed on improving air connectivity and fostering regional development.

Enhanced facilities
The Union Minister for Civil Aviation had previously conveyed the details of this significant upgrade. Once completed, the Bhubaneswar International Airport will offer enhanced facilities to both domestic and international travelers.
This investment is expected to support Odisha’s aspirations of becoming a major hub for travel and business in Eastern India.
Earlier, the Union Minister for Civil Aviation had said that the capacity of Bhubaneswar airport’s Terminal 1 is to handle around 40 lakh passengers per year and already around 50 lakh passengers are using it. There is a need to augment its capacity to 80 lakh passengers per year.
