BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab and BJD MP Debasish Samantray engaged in a war of words over the former’s ‘garbage dump’ statement.
A day before, while attending the diamond jubilee celebration of Ahemmed Bux High School under Nischintakoili block in Cuttack district, Mahtab said that those who have created these 'garbage dumps' in the State need to be put in jail.
“Those who created ‘garbage dumps’ need to be put in jail. Then more cells will be required in jails and we should have proper provision in the budget for it. These garbage dumps need to be removed immediately. The double-engine government needs to work at double speed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been firmly standing with us,” said Mahtab in his speech.
In response, Samantray said, had Mahtab made it clear about the ‘garbage dumps,' it would have been better.
“Mahtab should have been clear about ‘garbage dumps’. Are they in BJP or in BJD or else they are the public of Odisha? He should have told about it earlier during his 30-year tenure as an MP. The party would have been conscious then. After the formation of the new government, it’s their duty now to find out corruption,” said Samantray.
Meanwhile, senior journalist Akshay Sahu said that Mahtab is indicating about the corruption that was rampant during the tenure of the previous BJD government.
“Some leaders in BJD were fully indulged in corruption like mining, chit fund and land grab scams and other irregularities. There was a nexus between the leaders and the officials. There was also corruption in 5T and Mo Odisha Naveen Odisha. Mahtab has indicated towards these irregularities,” said Sahu.
“During the tenure of the BJD, heavy punishment was given to the leaders for opening their mouths against irregularities. Hence, Mahtab decided to open his mouth after the formation of the BJP government,” he added.
