In yet another disturbing incident, serious allegations have been levelled against Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar after the body of a young man was recovered under mysterious circumstances from the Pandakudia area on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Shiva Prasad Barik, a native of Jajpur district.
According to reports, Shiva's hanging body was found in a secluded spot in the Bharatpur police limits, raising suspicion of foul play. Locals and the deceased’s family have accused the police of attempting to pass off the mysterious death as a suicide.
In a specific and serious accusation, the name of Bharatpur police Sub-Inspector Baikunthanath Behera has surfaced in the case.
As per the SOP, even if a person commits suicide, the scientific team will visit the spot and recover the body in the presence of eyewitnesses and deceased family members. After the inquest, post post-mortem is performed. But in this case, no SOP is followed, alleged the locals.
“One Baikunthanath Behere, SI of the police station, was hurried to perform the post-mortem. When I said no family members were present, he kept on insisting on performing the post-mortem. It seems he has received a bribe or is being pressurized,” alleged the deceased’s uncle.
Commenting on the development, Behera said, “There is no allegation against me. I will receive the FIR.
Tension prevailed in the area following the recovery of the body, with residents demanding a high-level probe into the incident.
