At a time when the Commissionerate Police is making tall claims of initiating several measures to curb crimes in Bhubaneswar, a series of loots by two notorious gangs- Bawaria and Chanda have raised questions over the effective patrolling in the State Capital.
While the members of Bawaria gang are snatching gold ornaments from women walking alone on the road, members of Chanda gang are involved in several theft cases. Since the last eight days, they have looted as many as eight houses in the Temple City.
Though the Commissionerate Police has managed to arrest some members of Bawaria gang, people going for morning walk are still in a state of panic.
Most of the members of the Chanda gang are bald and hence it is named Chanda gang. They are not using shoes during theft to hoodwink the police investigation as sniffer dogs will not be able to find them based on the smell of their shoes.
As per the CCTV visuals retrieved from several places where the theft incidents have occurred, it has been found that members of a particular gang are involved in the criminal activities.
According to police sources, the members of the gang are targeting certain houses. After collecting detailed information about those houses like entry and exit points, proximity, and different routes, they are carrying out the theft at night in a planned manner. They are locking up the rooms in which the members of a family are sleeping before looting valuables from any house. In a bid to keep the outsiders away, they are also locking the main entrance of the house before executing the loot.
The identity of the members of the gang is yet to be identified. Commissionerate Police is suspecting that the members of Chanda Gang are either from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar. However, further investigation into the theft cases is currently underway. Following the arrest of some members of the gang, more information could be divulged about them.
