Farmers of Baruna Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society at Rajkanika in Kendrapara district have demanded action against the officials allegedly involved in a major bank fraud in which lakhs of rupees have been allegedly withdrawn from their account without their knowledge.
Farmers of the Cooperative Society met Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Tuesday and demanded actions against the erring officials.
Earlier on September 18, the farmers expressed their outrage over the alleged irregularities by embarking on a ‘padyatra’ from Rajkanika to Bhubaneswar. The farmers, who have lost lakhs of rupees to the alleged fraud by the bank official(s), also staged a sit-in protest outside the bank.
While farmers have accused the bank secretary Asit Behuria of swindling the money, they also suspect the involvement of other officials. Irate farmers demanded the strictest and exemplary punishment for those involved in the fraud of swindling money of innocent farmers.
According to sources, at least 10 farmers have been the victims of the fraud. Without their knowledge, the bank official(s) allegedly withdrew money from their account as most of the farmers do not have proper knowledge about withdrawing money, passbook updates, and other banking systems.
