According to official sources, the identification process of suspected Bangladeshi nationals has begun in full swing in Paradip following a high-level meeting chaired by Jagatsinghpur district Collector J Sonal. Police have detained at least 16 individuals for interrogation and are verifying their identities through official documents.

The drive has gained momentum with active involvement from multiple police stations across the district, particularly within Paradip police division.

Four verification centers have been established across the region to investigate individuals suspected of illegally residing in the town.

Several police stations, including Paradip Model PS, Marine PS, Lock PS, Abhayachandpur PS, Jatadhari Muhana Marine PS, Erasama PS, and Kujang PS have intensified surveillance in areas where illegal settlement is suspected.

Those 16 persons, who are under scrutiny, have been moved to the Shramik Ashrayasthala (labourer shelter) located at Atharbanki in Paradip.

Authorities are rigorously checking Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, land documents, and domicile certificates to confirm identities. The detained individuals—16 so far from Erasama and Paradip areas—remain under police custody as the investigation continues.

Police sources indicate that the operation will continue until all suspected settlers are thoroughly vetted, aiming to ensure that no foreign nationals reside unlawfully in coastal Odisha regions.

“My maternal grandfather was from 24 Pragana, West Bengal. He had relocated to Paradip long ago, but he had purchased a piece of land in 24 Pragana. There is a Land Patta (Record of Rights) in his name. I was born here, and I am around 60 years of age now. I have all valid documents in Paradip,” a detainee residing in Sukhuakhala, Sk Lalu, said.
