A pickup van carrying a large quantity of explosives was seized late Friday night near Alipur Chhak on NH 16 under Soro police limits in Balasore district. The vehicle was en route from Cuttack to Balasore when it collided with a stationary truck. The collision damaged the front portion of the van.
Locals Alert Police
Following the collision, local residents rushed to the spot to inspect and assist in rescue efforts. During this, they discovered that the van was heavily loaded with explosives. The matter was immediately reported to the Highway police, who in turn informed the Soro police.
Driver Absconds From Spot
As per reports, the driver of the pickup van fled the scene following the accident. The police later seized the vehicle and brought it to the Soro police station. Initial investigation indicates that the vehicle registration number is of Balasore.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain where the explosives were being transported to and with what intent. They have also begun a search operation to trace the absconding driver and are trying to gather information about the owner of the pickup van.
