The two-day bandh in Balasore has left daily wage workers in distress, with many unable to find work or access to basic means of livelihood.

As public transport services remain suspended, labourers who depend on daily income for survival have been forced to return home empty-handed.

Struggles Continue As Work Halts For Two Days

Workers who arrived in the town with the hope of earning at least Rs 300 a day have been left disillusioned, as businesses and construction work remain closed due to the ongoing shutdown. Some brought rice and water from home, hoping to manage through the day, but the absence of job opportunities has pushed them into greater uncertainty.

Voices Of Frustration Amid Political Apathy

“It has been two days since we have been roaming around looking for jobs but could not find any. We do not have any other means to earn money. The government or political parties are least bothered with what happens to the general public or poor people,” said one worker, expressing his frustration.

Another worker questioned the rationale behind such protests and asked, “If the political parties want to hold a protest, why are they not doing so around the houses of ministers and other political leaders? What is the point of disrupting the lives of daily wage labourers who earn Rs 300 a day? It has been two days since we earned any money, we do not even have ration cards to sustain our livelihoods.”

Uncertainty Looms For The Poor

As the bandh continues to affect normal life, the impact is felt most deeply by those at the margins. For daily wage earners, two days without work means going hungry, a harsh reality that hardly those in power appear to address.
