Thanks to the recent incessant rainfall triggered by a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, the water level of Baitarani river has registered a sharp increase.

As per reports, the Baitarani river has breached the danger mark at Akhuapada in Bhadrak district on Saturday. The river is now flowing at 17.88 mts against the danger mark of 17.83 mts. This has led to apprehension of a possible moderate flood in the system.

This is for the second time this season that Baitarani has witnessed floodwater. The only respite is the fact that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a sharp drop in rainfall activities in different parts of Odisha from today.

The IMD on Friday informed that the system is likely to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the next 2 to 3 days. As per IMD, there is no forecast of major rainfall activities in the next 4 to 5 days. However, a yellow warning for heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) has been issued for one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh today.
