As many as 29 victims of the tragic Bahagana train tragedy are yet to be identified. All the bodies have been kept preserved at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar, informed the Director of the hospital, Dr Ashutosh Biswas.
According to Biswas, not a single person has come to take or claim bodies in the past 15 days. The samples of blood of those, who had come in the past, have been collected.
“We have 29 bodies and people are coming and giving blood samples. Only after DNA matching, bodies were handed over. But no one has turned up in the last 15 days. We are getting DNA sample reports in two to three days,” said Biswas.
When asked whether the unclaimed bodies will be used for medical education or disposed of, Biswas said that so far they have not received any instructions. Appropriate steps will be taken when necessary instructions are received from the top, he added.
A total of 295 people were killed in the Bahanaga train tragedy that occurred on June 2, 2023.
